Well, no 11s for me this year. :) Next year for sure, when I actually throw a couple mods at this thing.

Got two new bests though:

60'.................1.876
330'................5.224
1/8.................7.974
(mph)..............91.06
1000'..............10.307
1/4.................12.269
(mph)..............115.38

...and then:

60'..................1.877
330'................5.220
1/8.................7.956
(mph)..............90.92
1000'...............10.286
1/4..................12.247
(mph)..............115.44

I was happy with how it went today. It was a good way to close the season for me. It was also fun to see Mark, Matt (Carnutz), Noah, and others run good numbers.

We had a nice tailwind, but the weather could have been better (it was 60+ and humid down there). I was hoping for a 40-degree day just once this year.

No, I put a K&N in it about a month ago. The factory one was really dirty, and they had the K&N at Checkers, so I bought that instead of a factory replacement.

Incidentally (for those who went), did anyone get a DA reading while they were there?

Right off the trailer, I ran a new best n/a. 9.62 @ 141 mph. Backed it up shortly thereafter with a 9.63, same mph.
Then if anyone watched, I hooked up the NAWSSS and ran a 9.0 @ 149.77 mph. With a best (for me), 60' of 1.28. It felt like someone stomped on my chest it left so friggin' hard..
Anyway, made 5 more juice passes, just could NOT get that elusive 8.99 et to light up. (made a few shots at the guardrail tho trying). :>)

Was a great day. Broke the trans, broke the front suspension, and bent the holy HELL out of the wheelie wheels!!! GReat day indeed!

Great. More pictures, more proof!!! Had a great time racing down there. Gotta get there MORE often next year. (keep saying that, but money bug keeps biting me in the ass too hard).
How'd ya'all like that headwind, trailering/driving down there this morning?
Took 1 and a half tanks of fuel to get there and 3/4 tank to get home (driving faster on way home besides). :>)

Sucked BIGTIME. I couldn't go faster than a little over 70. All the guys with open trailers blew past me. Fortunatly my deisel gets the same mileage once loaded.

On the way home though I held a steady 80 - 85 on 35.

Yep, passed one state trooper, (about 40 miles outside of cfr), doing 80 in that 65 zone. (hell, the wind was PUSHING me that fast, officer).....:>)
He didn't turn around, but his brake lites did flash a couple of times.............I slowed down to 75 for about 10 miles, then kicked it back up to 80+ for the rest of the return slide home.........................

Unfortunately, I did not get a corrected baro reading for the day. I heard people saying (around the pits), that the air was 'fair'. Well, to me, to run a 9.6 right off the trailer, the air had to be GOOD. Sorry for not having more accurate numbers.
I would guess it had to be 500 or less.

Again, ya shoulda been there. it was a great time.
My only complaint/concern for the track, MIGHT have been a little lack of maintenence in track prep (sometimes), and the slooooooooow process of running cars out of the lanes. THAT and running those stupid little gokarts all the time. Talk about a friggin' waste of time............My .002

What'd the white mustang break? I heard a loud clunk clunk clunk as they pushed it past me, past the staging lanes backwards. Sounded like something in the rear end, like maybe an axle? Not good if he didn't have a trailer to get home, in either case.

So what is the usual process at CFR? Are they usually pretty good about moving cars along? I continually shake my head at how they run the show at RF. I mean when you have over a hundred cars there and there's a breakdown, the cars start backing up into the pits do to the fact that only 2 staging lanes are used. Once in awhile, they get someone to fill the lanes and use cones to block them off when they are full. This is either just due to complete laziness or lack of personnel, either of which are BS considering the money they charge.

Does anyone have a broad picture of the layout of CFR? I'm just curious to see it before I go next year. The wheels are already turning in my head for upcoming mods and making a few trips down there next year.

They are MUCH better at keeping the flow moving along than Rock Falls.

I was down there, but didn't know anyone else. There wasn't as many people there as I thought there would be.

I disagree about CF moving cars better than RF. There must have only been 40-50 cars running and I only got 6 passes in. I would have gotten 10+ runs in at RF. The track prep is much better at CF though.

I hit a new personal best of 11.53@123 with a 1.71 60' on street tires. I was the silver talon down there.

Mcleod twin disk. I'm going to try the centerforce DFX this time. The mcleod held up pretty good considering all the racing I've done in the last year.

I think I figured out my bent frame/suspension woes tonite. It bent the rear axle housing. (time for an upgrade anyway).

JET
10-31-2005, 07:53 PM
Yeah, I was staged behind you one time and your wheelie bars definately were bent! I wish us AWD guys could heat up our tires. AWD is actually a disadvantage at the track! I should be rwd and v8 within 2 years though.

Steve,

Are you running a 8.8 housing in your Stang?

drag79stang
10-31-2005, 09:42 PM
Nope, Ed. Actually it's an ancient rear end assy, (9"), that came out of a buds pulling lawn tractor setup. (no shit). We found a nodular 3rd member for it, tossed in a spool, and some ancient Mark Williams axles, and went racing. It's been shortened/rewelded/shortened/rewelded a couple of times. Didn't even imagine that THAT might be a problem......(duh)........:>)

In either case, already planted the 'seed' to Larrys dad (my machinists father), to get ready to do some HD welding and fabricating to swap all the mounts, etc, off my old stuff onto a nice new HD one.

Sure glad it was something simple............well fairly simple............ Didn't sleep for shit last nite, thinking it might be a bent frame....................:>),

That is good news. I am surprised to hear the housing was bent. Those things are really stout. Better that housing than your frame though.

Are you going to build the 9 inch or have Larrys dad do it all?

No dealer ship just broke a shaft not even going to bother buying a new one just going to put a live axle in it so I cant launch it even harder next time :D

Congrats on all the good times run.

Noah...I didn't know you had Hoosier drag radials now! At least you didn't break the diff again.

Mark, do you really think the DFX can take that kind of power? Did you talk to anyone at Centerforce? That would be sweet if I could run that clutch as well. Check out their 'light metal' pressure plate too...it's expensive but 6lbs lighter.

Well, Ed, being as I don't 'weld' for shit, (shake too much), PLUS I wouldn't trust my own welding on something like this, I"ll have Larrys dad (my machinist), do the welding/rear end housing setup.
The gears /axles and all innard crap is a piece of cake, and I throw 9"s together all day long with eyes closed, so no biggie there, BUT the actual cutting/narrowing/welding, of the member itself will be by someone else.......I'm chicckin'. :>)

Thinking about the comp eng. welded/angle looking one. (looks cool as hell).

That's my story, and I"m stickin' to it.

Now out to the garage to start yankin' motor/trans......:>)
